One-day visit

You can't, of course, see all of Berlin in one day. This is a large city, and there are lots of sites worth a visit. If you visit the city for business and any other reason and have only half a day or a day to Berlin, you have to give up a lot. Areas you may visit in relatively short intervals are suggested here. Choose whatever fits your interests or your physical fitness.

A good starting point

One of the first places which are worthy of seeing is the Potsdamer Platz (The Potsdam square), which is the new business center of Berlin. Before the reunion of Berlin in 1990 the 50 hectare ground was a completely ruined area, a no man's land between communist East Berlin and pro-western West Berlin.

This situation has been absolutely changed since then. High-rising buildings, such as Sony center, a new concentration of cultural institutions - the famous Philharmonic orchestra, the modern art museum Neue Nationalgalerie and the shopping center (called the Arkaden) make the visit there a really cultural experience.

A parliamentary point of view

Not far away from the Potsdamer Platz and the new huge central railway station, the Hauptbahnhof, the Brandenburg gate (Brandenburger Tor) area worth's seeing.

This area is situated between the famous Unter den Linden Avenue and the new seat of the federal government and parliament of Germany, which are also attractive sites for visitors.

From the transparent glass dome of the restored Reichstag building, the parliament house, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view of the Mitte district (no entrance fee, but quite long queues). The building stands in the Platz der Republik (the Republic square).
