The nearby Hill
On the nearby hill, there is another group of interesting buildings: the Orangery, Friedrich Wilhelm 4 Memorial, the Dragon house, which is a cafe and restaurant, and the Belvedere, a beautiful pavilion.
Orangery (Orangerie)
The structure was erected in the middle of the 19th century in a style of a Renaissance palace. It is placed on the head of a small hill. Today, it serves as an archive. Its length is about 300 yards.
Before the main entrance, there is a monument which commemorates the king who built the Orangery, Friedrich Wilhelm (Frederick William) the 4th. In the ground floor, there is a statue of Frederick the Great. Inside the building, there are reproductions of the Italian painter Raphael's works. From the tower, one can see the spectacular scenery of the entire Sanssouci Park.
The Dragon House (Drachenhaus)
This building also stands on the Orangery hill. The way to this building goes through a beautiful avenue of trees. The building was meant to be the residence of the vintner of the royal court of Frederick the Great. It was built in 1770 in a Chinese architectural style by the architect Gontard. Today it has a cafe and restaurant.
The Belvedere
The structure which is located on the highest peak of the hill, called Mount Claus (Klausberg). This two-story pavilion is overlooking the terraces on which the court gardener planted fruit trees for Frederick the Great. The architect Unger built it in 1770-1772. The building was burnt during World War II and was restored later.
There are many more interesting structures in the park, such as the New Palace, the Charlottenhof palace, and the Church of Peace.
